The special role that grandparents have in the lives of their families was prayerfully recognized and remembered July 26, the day the Universal Church marks the Feast of Sts. Ann and Joachim, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandparents of Jesus.

Masses and other celebrations for grandparents were held in parishes around the Diocese including those that comprise the Lumen Christi Cohort -- Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony, Hamilton; St. Raphael-Holy Angels, Hamilton, and St. Gregory the Great, Hamilton Square. A Mass was held in St. Anthony Church with Father Brian Butch, pastor of St. Anselm Parish, Wayside, serving as principal celebrant and homilist. Priests from the Cohort parishes were among the concelebrants.
