Celebrating old news!

We have never been so happy to report that this brand new issue of The Monitor Magazine is already outdated!

Just hours before finishing the January issue and sending it off to the printer, the word came in that Bishop David O’Connell had suffered a heart attack in Rome and was recovering in the hospital from an emergency procedure to open a blocked artery. We weren’t quite to the point where we had to say “STOP THE PRESSES!” But we were close.

In publishing the Bishop’s health news, we fully expected that the information would change not long after subscribers got their copy in the mail or via email. We were very intentional about referring readers to TrentonMonitor.com where they would be able to get the latest details. But we could not have predicted the swift and significant progress that our Bishop made, to the point of being already released from the hospital and scheduled to return home to New Jersey by this weekend. All wonderful news!

With that said, we point to the rest of the content in this new issue that is far less dramatic and time-critical, but still well-worth your attention.

The beautiful image on the January cover of Bishop O’Connell greeting Pope Francis begins to tell the story of the pre-pilgrimage experiences that the Bishop and a few of his traveling companions had in Rome. Additional images we’ve included are moving and awe-inspiring, and are just the tip of the iceberg. Check TrentonMonitor.com for ongoing news and photo coverage.

Also, as we all embark on a new year, with many of us looking for the inspiration to make a difference in our own lives and those with whom we share this world, The Monitor Magazine introduces a new feature: BE INSPIRED. With this launch, we share with readers the stories of a number of ordinary men and women with extraordinary stories that have something of value for us all.

Other coverage you’ll want to read:
In Remembrance -- Revisiting the life of Pope Benedict XVI one year after his passing into eternal life

Special Report -- Pope Francis expounds on role of artificial intelligence in World Day of Peace message

Seasons & Celebrations – A pictorial retrospective of Advent and Christmas celebrations from around the Diocese; stories on Bishop’s visits with clergy and seminarians

PLUS …. Lots more local coverage; faith insights from our talented columnists, and key diocesan news
The January issue has been sent to the mailboxes and inboxes of our subscribers. Not yet a subscriber? Sign up today safely and conveniently by clicking HERE or writing to [email protected].

We hope that our readers find inspiration at every turn in this new year. Please keep Bishop in your prayers as he continues to recover.

God bless!
