Eleanor Elizabeth Tyler, served in education on diocesan parish levels

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. in St. Ann Church, 1253 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, for Eleanor Elizabeth Tyler who died Dec. 18 in Voorhees.
Ms. Tyler had a longtime connection with the Diocese, teaching in elementary and secondary schools and was instrumental in the formation of the diocesan Office of Religious Education (now known as the Office of Catechesis). In her role with catechesis, she was involved with training religious education teachers.
Ms. Tyler was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Burlington. She graduated from Cathedral High School, Trenton, and held a bachelor’s degree in education from Georgian Court College (now University), Lakewood; a master’s degree in education from Boston College, and a master’s degree in social work from Rutgers University.
Ms. Tyler had was a former religious sister and she and she later went on to work in private practice as a family therapist. In addition to St. Ann Parish, she also had close ties with St. Theresa Parish, Little Egg Harbor.
Following her high school graduation in 1955, she was a religious sister for nearly 30 years the Sister of Mercy community.
