As the Diocese’s Catholic school community prepared for a new academic year, the Department of Catholic Schools sponsored a series of events to equip new teachers and principals with needed resources and information, and to bring all principals together for a day of fellowship and development.

On Aug. 14, the four Catholic school principals who will begin new assignments gathered for a meeting in the diocesan Chancery, Lawrenceville, where Chancery staff presented information on a number of topics: “Creation of a Safe Environment,” “Development;” “Human Resources/Administrative Services;” “Development;” “Communications;” “Catechetical Certification and Training;” “School Budgets and Financial Assistance;” “Government Programs and Operations;" "Curriculum and Policy," and "Past, Present Future.”

Dozens of principals gathered Aug. 19 for a convocation, beginning with a Mass in the diocesan Chancery with Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. Presentations were given by the Diocesan PTA and diocesan Development and Finance Offices. Dan O’Connell, an assistant superintendent of Catholic Schools, spoke on curriculum and instruction updates, while Bonnie Milecki, also assistant superintendent, addressed development and operations updates. The principals also heard from Whitney Stovall of the Friendzy program who spoke on “The Power of Your Story – Creating a Culture of Connection: Psalm 139:1.”

On Aug. 20, teachers who are beginning new assignments in schools around the Diocese attended a meeting in St Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square, where they had time to network and receive an orientation on diocesan policies. One highlight of the day for the new teachers was the unexpected visit from Bishop O’Connell, who offered remarks, gave them his blessing and mingled with them during lunch.
