In his remarks, Bishop O’Connell noted that Mount Carmel Guild is one of his favorite charities and commended the staff, volunteers and supporters for their efforts to assist the poor through its Home Health Nursing and Community Support Programs.
The Bishop noted that he is a Vincentian priest whose religious community was founded by St. Vincent de Paul, and whose charism was that of serving the poor.
When Bishop O’Connell arrived to the Diocese almost 14 years ago after serving many years in the ministry of Catholic education, he said he was happy to see all the good works being done by agencies like the Guild.
“I really feel like I was fulfilling the mission of St. Vincent de Paul,” he said, and the Mount Carmel Guild embodies the spirit of St. Vincent in its mission to serving the poor.
Daren Miller, director of external affairs for the Mount Carmel Guild, contributed to this story.
