Catechists in the Diocese are invited for new virtual and in-person opportunities in May to receive support and encouragement in their critical ministry.

Sponsored by the diocesan Department of Catechesis, The Art of Catechesis series will be offered online on May 17, 24 and 31 at 6:30-8:30 p.m., and in person May 9 and 16 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret Church, 300 Ludlow Ave., Spring Lake.

The six-hour series functions as a foundational course toward the diocesan Certificate in Catechesis, with the goal of defining the role of catechist and acknowledging the catechist’s response to the call of faith originating outside of themselves. Both new and seasoned catechists are invited to attend, as the series aims to continue the formation begun by initial training as well as introduce new catechists to their ministry. Additionally, those who are discerning a catechist role are encouraged to participate.

Topics covered will include the role of the catechist, sources and methods of catechesis, as well as tools and practices.

By using the resources presented during the course, catechists will be able to better prepare for each class and engage students in the learning and formation process; more confidently lead, guide, teach and inspire; be familiar with resources for class planning, preparation and execution; and draw strength from their own personal formation and life of faith.

Registration is open at dioceseoftrenton.org/art-of-catechesis-1. For questions, please contact Michelle Angelo, [email protected].
