Bishop welcomes news that apostolic nuncio elevated to cardinal

As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I extend my heartiest congratulations on behalf of the clergy, religious and faithful of the Diocese to our Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Christophe Pierre, on his elevation to the College of Cardinals.  The relationship between the bishops of a country and their Apostolic Nuncio is an important and special one.  He is the personal representative of the Holy Father to each nation and its liaison to the Offices of the Holy See.  He is instrumental in the selection of bishops there.  In my many contacts with His Eminence Cardinal-elect Christophe Pierre as Apostolic Nuncio since 2016, I have always found him very attentive to and helpful with the needs of our Diocese. He is a humble, deeply insightful and pleasant man. This appointment is an honor to the United States of America.
