The invitation has been issued to parish youth ministers to “Join us as we challenge our teens to intentionally live and grow in their faith… and remind them of all the Christ did for us… ‘On Purpose.’”

Eighth through 12th graders are invited to attend the annual Diocesan Youth Conference, themed “On Purpose,” which will be held Feb. 3 in Red Bank Catholic High School, 112 Broad St., Red Bank.

The day-long event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with a 4 p.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. Sponsored by the diocesan Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, the conference is an opportunity for all teens to connect with other young Catholics beyond their parish or school, and to encounter Jesus through dynamic presentations, music, workshops and much more.

Opening with a concert-like atmosphere with a praise and worship band and audience engagement, the day will also include talks on living faith with purpose by Catholic keynote speaker Aires Patulot – a Seattle-based speaker, musician, podcaster and retreat facilitator who has spoken worldwide, built homes in the Philippines, led retreats across Europe and more. A director of a campus ministry in a Catholic high school, Patulot has a bachelor’s degree in theology and master’s degree in pastoral studies from Seattle University, Wash.

Central to the DYC event is a service project to benefit patrons of the St. Francis Inn – a Catholic Franciscan soup kitchen and social service center serving the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia since 1979. Teens who attend DYC will help fill backpacks for the homeless with cold weather necessities such as hats, gloves, scarves, socks, blankets and hand warmers. Parishes of the Diocese will be invited to participate in collections of these items in the weeks prior to the DYC. Philadelphia-based Jenna’s Blessing Bags will partner with the DYC and provide toiletries to include in the backpacks, many of which will go to St. Francis Inn, while a portion will remain in the Diocese of Trenton to assist those in need locally.

Registration is open at https://dioceseoftrenton.org/dyc-registration-2024 as well as opportunities to donate winter items for backpacks. Cost to attend is $25 in advance, or $35 for walk-in attendees, and includes lunch. Register by Jan. 22 to guarantee a free T-shirt.

Additional information, as well as videos of past DYC events, are available at https://dioceseoftrenton.org/dyc. For more information on Jenna’s Blessing Bags, visit https://jennasblessingbags.org/.
