Parishes in the Diocese have scheduled the following events:

St. Michael Parish, West End, will present Handel’s MESSIAH Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the church located at 800 Ocean Ave. The concert will be a sing-along and will feature Part 1 and the Hallelujah Chorus. Participants can bring a copy of the score or borrow one at the door.  No admission fee.

Following the concert, Lauren Walters and several of the Messiah professional singers will lead the congregation in a Christmas Carol sing-along.

The parish will also host a Christmas concert with FATHER ALPHONSE STEVENSON AND THE ORCHESTRA OF ST. PETER BY THE SEA Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the upper church, located at 800 Ocean Ave.

Father Stevenson, the orchestra’s music director and conductor, is a Catholic priest who founded the more than 40-member ensemble in 1986 after conducting some 3,0o0 performances of “A Chorus Line” at Broadway’s Shubert Theater. The orchestra’s first concert was held in St. Peter Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

Tickets for the Dec. 17 concert may be purchased by visiting the  parish website at www.stmichaelnj.com and go to the Eventbrite website.

Tickets are also available in the parish office Dec. 5-7 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Dec. 12-14 form 9a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All concert seats will be reserved and assigned seating. Pricing levels are $55, $50 and $40. Ticket purchases may not be made over the phone. Persons who purchased tickets online are asked to print it out and bring it with them to the concert.


Holy Eucharist Parish, Tabernacle, will host its annual A JOURNEY TO CHRISTMAS DRIVE-THROUGH LIVING NATIVITY Dec. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the parish grounds located at 520 Medford Lakes Rd. Participants can experience the Birth of Jesus through scenes featuring live actors and animals. There is no admission fee.


St. Joseph Parish, Toms River, will host A CONCERT OF HOLIDAY MUSIC featuring the Toms River Municipal Band Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. in the church, located at 685 Hooper Ave. The concert will feature traditional Christmas carols, Chanukah selections and popular Christmas favorites. Several students from Ocean County high schools will also participate as well as Father Scott Shaffer, parish pastor, who will play the tenor saxophone and parish choir member Janet Ritter will lead a Christmas sing-along.

There is no admission fee to attend the conference.
