Parish to mark 10th anniversary of Respect Life ministry with Martin Valverde concert

In an effort to raise greater awareness about Respect Life among the Hispanic faithful from around the Diocese and to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Respect Life ministry in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Lakewood, a respect life concert featuring internationally renowned Martin Valverde will be held Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. in the gymnasium of Holy Family Church, Lakewood.

Prior to Valverde’s concert, the evening will kick off at 6 p.m. with a presentation and musical performance with Father Kevin Kelly, administrator of St. Joseph Parish, Raritan, who is a visual artist, musician.

Father Kelly has previously served as a campus ministry chaplain at Rutgers University and as parochial vicar of several parishes in the Metuchen Diocese where he served the large community of Spanish-speaking immigrants, primarily from Mexico. He has also worked in the Metuchen Diocesan Office of Evangelization and for the past 15 years, he has also spent several weeks each year serving in the Diocese of San Miguel, El Salvador, and has made several mission trips to Puebla and Oaxaca in Mexico.

Following Father Kelly’s presentation, the musicians from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, will perform and then Valverde’s concert will begin at 8 p.m. During the concert, Valverde will share reflections and experiences about his life.

Valverde was born in San Jose Costa Rica and he founded the choir in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish there. His concerts, attended by more than 1.5 million people, are designed to evangelize the Catholic faith and help those attending rediscover or strengthen their relationship with Christ.

Valverde has performed in 24 countries including most of Latin America. He has produced four videos; published two books and recorded 30 albums in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian. He lives in Guadalajara, Mexico, with his wife and three children.

The evening will conclude at 10 p.m., with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.

Fee to attend is $35 general admission or $65 for VIP seating.

Holy Family Church is located at 1139 E. County Line Rd., Lakewood. The event, in which all presentations will be in Spanish, will be shown on Facebook Live on the Department of Evangelization and Family Life’s Facebook page.
