Bishop O’Connell’s series on Eucharist to launch Oct. 18

In a new five-part series on the Eucharist, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C. M., highlights “many aspects of the inexhaustible gift and mystery of the Holy Eucharist as the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ drawn from Scripture and Tradition.” Titled “Catechetical Series on the Eucharist,” the segments will begin Oct. 18, the Feast of St. Luke. An installment will drop each week in text, video and podcast across all diocesan digital platforms. The entire series will be printed in the November issue of The Monitor Magazine.
The five installments of the series will cover:
Preface and Part One (Oct. 18) – Eucharist as “mystery” and “reality”; faith as a supernatural gift; Jesus’ words, “Do this in memory of me,” as the institution of the Sacrament of Eucharist
Part Two (Oct. 25) – Catechesis as necessary for belief in the Real Presence of Jesus; Scripture accounts of God’s presence among his people
Part Three (Nov. 1) – Excerpts from great theologians, saints, Scripture, emphasizing the unchanging fundamental belief in the Eucharist
Part Four (Nov. 8) – Excerpts from Papal, Vatican II, U.S. Bishop’s documents demonstrating continuity and constancy of Eucharistic doctrine
Part Five (Nov. 15) – Eucharistic Lexicon including words, terms and expressions describing or referring to Holy Eucharist or its celebration
The “Catechetical Series on the Eucharist” will be available in text, video and podcast (English and Spanish) and can be accessed at DioceseofTrenton.org/eucharist-series. It will also be posted to TrentonMonitor.com; TrentonMonitor.com/peces (Spanish), and the Diocese’s Facebook, twitter and Instagram pages.
