Sister Mary Ann O’Connor, ministered in Spring Lake parish for 25 years

A member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell for 74 years, Sister Mary Ann entered the congregation Aug. 30, 1948; made first profession April 22, 1950, and final profession April 22, 1956.
Sister Mary Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Caldwell University, Caldwell, and a master’s degree in music education from The Catholic University of America, Washington. She asl completed a private voice study with Louise Natale and attended numerous liturgical conferences at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.
Sister Mary Ann spent 53 years teaching music to students of all ages in schools in the Archdiocese of Newark. She was also an associate professor of music and department chair at Caldwell University, where she often produced Disney-themed performances.
Sister Mary Ann also directed the children’s and adult choirs in Our Lady of Peace Parish, New Providence, and her final 25 years in ministry were spent in St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake, teaching and serving as director of the parish music ministry, working with the children’s and adult choirs. Sister Mary Ann retired in 2013.
Sister Mary Ann was predeceased by her parent, Walter and Antoinette (Cossolini) O’Connor; a brother and a sister. She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and members of the Sisters of St. Dominic.
Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery located on the grounds of her community’s motherhouse in Caldwell. A memorial Mass was celebrated Nov. 12 in St. Catharine Church.
