RBC Caseys proclaim sanctity of life
February 2, 2022 at 6:46 p.m.
Members of the “Caseys4Life” club and others of the RBC community gathered in St. James Parish for a prayer service led by pastor Msgr. Joseph Rosie, who assured the students “they’ll never walk alone” in their goal to proclaim the sanctity of life at all stages from conception to natural death. The priest bade them a safe march and shared a song with lyrics from Psalm 139; “You formed my inmost being, you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am wonderfully made.”
RBC students processed from the church, then walked a loop through the streets of town from Broad St. to Monmouth St. to Drummond Place to Peters Place. Many held signs proclaiming their beliefs with the messages “Caseys for Life” and “We are the pro-life generation.”
"I am extremely appreciative that the students stood up for life. It says a lot for people their age to do so, since that is not always popular with their peers," said Msgr. Joseph Rosie. "Their standing up adds credibility. I thanked them for having the courage to say they were for life. Jesus had his disciples, and the Church needs more people like this."
“[The town] knows who we are,” said Deb Flego, RBC religion teacher and moderator of the Caseys4Life club of about 30 members who meet bi-weekly. The group had a strong annual presence in the Washington March for Life before the pandemic necessitated participation be virtual.

The march attracted students from campus ministry, Catholic Athletes for Christ, and others. RBS senior, Colin Sandford, explained his participation, saying, “Everyone should know that God gives us life and we should not take it for granted.”
Three Caseys4Life board members, all RBC juniors, explained why they prioritized their pro-life actions in their active junior year schedule.
Amelia Santos said, “There are not enough kids involved with pro-life. It is very important to reach out and notice. I love how we take a stand, and our activities make a difference.”
Alexa Gatta added, “Every person deserves to be treated the same, because life starts at conception. God gives us life. It is a miracle.”
Lauren Gabriel shared matter-of-factly, “I was supposed to have been aborted. My mother and her family were very poor. She had a vision and changed her mind and heart, then gave me and my twin sister up for adoption. My adoptive mother told me the story when I got older. This taught me the value of life - it’s a gift.”
