Ministry teams for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults are invited to attend one of two meetings in January to prepare for the upcoming process of welcoming new members into the Catholic Church.

Sponsored by the diocesan Department of Catechesis, the first meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Jan. 14 in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold. The second meeting will be a virtual option from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 25. The gatherings are open to RCIA coordinators, directors and team members. Topics will include the Rite of Election and the Rites during Lent, with time for small group discussions as well.

The gatherings are designed to bring together RCIA ministry team members – both veterans of the program as well as those new to the ministry – to share ideas and learn from one another as well as from diocesan leaders.

The presentations will include details on who attends the Rite of Election, discernment of the catechumen, diocesan paperwork and volunteers on the day of the Rite. Small group discussions will provide examples of the formation process during the Period of the Catechumenate and share how the parish RCIA team prepares the catechumens and their sponsors for the Rite of Election. Msgr. Sam Sirianni, rector of the Co-Cathedral, and Jennifer Elsensohn, pastoral associate, will discuss the Rites of the Period of Purification and Enlightenment, including the themes of the Scrutinies.

To register for either the in-person or virtual meeting, please visit dioceseoftrenton.org/rcia-events. For questions, contact Debbie D'Agostaro at [email protected].
