Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Deacon Hanna graduated from Ursuline High School in 1955 where he met his future wife, Donna. He earned a business degree from Youngstown State University in 1959 and was a reservist for the U.S. Air Force for several years following his college graduation. He eventually moved to Whitehouse Station in 1982 and began his career at DuPont. He worked for Ohio Bell and retired from AT&T after more than 40 yeas of service in various administrative and human resource positions. In retirement, he and his wife moved to South Seaside Park and joined St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish.

Deacon Hanna was a faithful Catholic his entire life, serving as an altar boy as a youngster and in adulthood he was a reader, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and members of various

committees in his parish. He entered the diaconate formation program for the Metuchen Diocese in 1992 and was ordained May 5, 1996. He ministered in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Whitehouse Station, and St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish. His involvement in St. Pio Parish included serving as chaplain of the Holy Name and Altar-Rosary Societies; was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he created a faith sharing group that met weekly. During the COVID-19 shutdown, he kept the group connected by recording spiritual messages. He retired as a deacon in 2021.

Deacon Hanna was predeceased by his daughter, Jill; his parents; in-laws; four siblings and brother-in-law.

In addition to Donna, to whom he was married 62 years, he is survived by children John C. (Tammy) of Dayton, Ohio; Lyn (Lon) Simonetti of Columbus Ohio; Fred Rager of Somerville; Thomas (Kellie) of Rhineback, N.Y.; Garrett (Michelle) of Dexter, Mich.; Nicole (Sebastian) Bbalo of Brick; 12 grandchildren; sisters- and brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Entombment was in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall.
