Four local priests make Easter week visit to Italy

Following their observances of Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum, four priests from the Diocese set aside their parish and diocesan duties for a bit and continued their celebration of the Easter season with a special visit to Italy.

The priests are Msgr. Thomas N. Gervasio, diocesan vicar general and pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Hamilton; Msgr. Sam Sirianni, rector of St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, Freehold; Father Daniel Peirano, pastor of St. Thomas More Parish, Manalapan, and Father Jean Felicien, parochial vicar of St. James Parish, Pennington; St. Alphonsus Parish, Hopewell, and St. George Parish, Titusville.

Among the sites the priests traveled to in Rome were St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, Casa Santa Maria at the Pontifical North American College; the Church of the Twelve Apostles and the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls and the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

Highlights of their time in Assisi included Santa Maria Degli Angeli; the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, and the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis. On a personal note, two priests were happy to have a chance to visit family members. Msgr. Gervasio spent time with his family in Naples and Father Peirano caught up with his nephew who is studying at a university in Bologna.

Msgr. Sirianni and Father Felicien have been chronicling the visit to Rome and posting many photos on their respective Facebook pages.
