St. Catharine parishioner Dooley appointed Chair of Manhattan College’s Board of Trustees

Catholic education is important to William Dooley, something that is evidenced not only by his words, but also by his actions.
Dooley, an alumnus of Paramus Catholic High School and Manhattan College, was appointed as the next chair of the Christian Brothers college’s Board of Trustees in July.
When reflecting on his long-time support of Catholic education, he remarked, “It’s not just about the learning, it’s also about handing on the faith,” the Spring Lake resident and 1975 graduate of Manhattan College shared. “I see a renaissance in Catholic education, and I hope it continues.”
Dooley is the former executive vice president of investments and financial services at AIG (American International Group) and served in various senior roles in AIG’s domestic international areas. He retired from AIG in 2015.
“Bill Dooley is a terrific person to lead the Manhattan College Board of Trustees, especially in these evolving and demanding times,” outgoing chair Kenneth Rathgeber said. “Bill is a dynamic leader and highly respected among his peers. I’m looking forward to seeing great things under his leadership and doing what I can to help Bill and the rest of the board in the years to come.”
Serving the community of Manhattan College is something that Dooley is proud to do.
“My family has a long history with the college, dating back to my grandfather’s graduation in 1894,” Dooley said. “Having such an extensive relationship with Manhattan College, I’m incredibly honored to be selected as the next chair of the Board of Trustees. It’s wonderful to be able to contribute to the College in this way.”
In addition to his charitable work with the Bronx-based liberal arts college, Dooley has served on Diocese of Trenton’s Finance Council for almost fifteen years.
“Bishop Smith knew that I had a background in finance, and he asked me to come on board. That’s how I got involved,” he offered.
He is also involved with various clubs and organizations, including his local parishes, and Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, where his two sons, William and Patrick, attended school. His two daughters, Meg and Mary Kate, are alumnae of Red Bank Catholic High School, Red Bank.
Joining Dooley on the Manhattan College board is newly appointed vice chair Christian Brother Frank G. Byrne, CBA’s former president and current auxiliary provincial of Christian Brothers Schools’ eastern North America district.
In the community of St. Catharine- St. Margaret, Spring Lake, where Dooley and his wife have been parishioners for 20 years, he serves on the parish finance committee, something he is more than happy to do.
“If you’re in a spot where you can volunteer, and you have the background and knowledge to help the pastors and make a difference, I think it something definitely worthwhile to pursue. It’s just the right thing to do.”
