Mission: Jersey will resume this summer for young people

During July and August, the Diocese is hosting four Mission: Jersey opportunities that will allow participants to share in prayer experiences, community building activities, service projects and hear witness testimonials by representatives of different outreach organizations that assist underserved people from throughout the state.
Focusing on the Year of St. Joseph, the Mission: Jersey days “will empower our young people to use their gifts and talents to make a real difference in their local community, as well as grow in their faith,” said Dan Waddington, director of the diocesan Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, which coordinates the event. “We are all called to serve by the nature of our Baptism and I hope that the youth in our Diocese will answer the call, join us for Mission: Jersey, and then go back to their home parishes and continue to look for ways to serve the local community, right here at home. That’s why it’s called Mission: Jersey,”
Explaining some of the logistics, Waddington said that each day of service will be capped at 50 participants as a precautionary to allow for the health and safety measure for both the youth and the presenters.
“This year “Mission: Jersey” is different because in the past we would offer the days of service as overnight trips. We can’t do that right now,” Waddington said, again emphasizing pandemic protocols. “But what we can do is bring the immersion mission group experience to the students and their parishes.”
The one-day Mission: Jersey event will be held in four parishes on the following days: July 27, St. Mary of the Pines Church, 100 Bishop Way, Manahawkin; July 29, St. Gabriel Parish, 100 N. Main St., Marlboro; August 3, Holy Eucharist Parish, 520 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle, and Aug. 5, St. Gregory the Great Parish, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
Each day is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., and participants are asked to donate $10 for materials.
