Brick parish plans weeklong Pentecost Novena

The novena, which will be daily at 7 p.m., will be livestreamed on the parish website and its Facebook page. The Novena Booklet may be downloaded from the parish website as well.
Father Michael Santangelo, pastor, explained that the idea for the novena stemmed from parish evangelization efforts underway before the coronavirus pandemic. For example, the parish evangelization team had developed a retreat called "Rediscovering the Holy Spirit." Included in that effort were ideas to celebrate Pentecost in a special way this year.
“Although we have had to change our plans, we felt that the novena was something we should still do,” Father Santangelo said. “Novenas are a traditional part of the prayer life of the Church. It is something we can easily stream [online].”
“The period of time between the Ascension and Pentecost, we find the Apostles waiting and praying until the Holy Spirit descends,” he continued. “As we prepare to return … [to] the secular world, we need the Holy Spirit to help us live more fully the faith we profess. It will only be through the power of the Holy Spirit that we will be able to be the people of faith which the Church and the world needs.”
In addition to the novena, a Pentecost Vigil Mass will be livestreamed at 5 p.m. May 30. For more information, visit churchofepiphany.org.
