Stations of the Cross returns to diocesan mausoleums

“Pope John Paul II has said that praying for the souls in purgatory is ‘the highest act of supernatural charity,” Deacon David O’Connor, diocesan director for the Department of Catholic Cemeteries, said during last year’s inaugural program.
“The souls in purgatory hold a place of high esteem in the Catholic faith. These are our relatives and friends who have gone before us, and before living the beatific vision, they must spend a time of purification. They depend on us to shorten their stay in purgatory and speed up their entrance into heaven,” he said.
Led by Deacon O’Connor, the stations will be prayed every Friday at: 1 p.m. in St. Mary Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton; and 3 p.m. in Jesus Bread of Life Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3055 Fostertown Road, Mount Laurel. The dates are March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3.
During Stations of the Cross, participants will have the opportunity to recall loved ones who have died and keep in mind the departed who may have no one to pray for them; reflect on the reality of purgatory; remember the Passion and Death of Christ, and pray that the same Christ may soon welcome the souls of the faithful departed.
