A marriage retreat series aiming to bring couples closer together is being held online this summer.

The series, hosted by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, will be held every Monday and Thursday from June 29 to July 23. Typically a weekend retreat, the series is online this summer due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Marriage Encounter was originally founded by Spanish priest Father Gabriel Calvo in the 1950s; the movement has become popular in the United States and internationally, and the Diocese of Trenton’s Department of Marriage Ministries and NFP often utilizes its materials.

One of the goals for the retreat is for married couples to learn how to communicate and grow in their marriage. Another is for couples to spend quality time together without outside distractions – work, friends, extracurricular activities. Priests and religious wanting to strengthen their ministries are also encouraged to attend.

To register for the retreat, visit, wwme-philly.org or by call Al & Mary Liz Heumann at 610-449-1859. The cost is $100. If any couples cannot afford to attend, they are encouraged to reach out for financial assistance.
