TV crews visit as Medford students honor emergency personnel

The morning of Jan. 29, the Medford school welcomed first responders, including police, fire and emergency personnel from Medford and Medford Lakes and hosted a breakfast in their honor.
The festivities were also highlighted on TV as crews from two Philadelphia TV stations, 6 ABC and NBC10, captured video to be shown during afternoon and evening news.
According to Kathleen Banco, marketing director, 2020 marked the second year to host the First Responders Breakfast during Catholic Schools Week, saying it’s an event in which we “recognize how hard our police, fire and EMS teams work to keep our community safe.”
Banco noted how the students look forward to the breakfast and want to be involved as servers, escorts, and by making placemats and welcome cards. The pancake and Egg McMuffin menu was prepared by the PTA.
Banco said it was especially moving when the students formed an honor guard and they enthusiastically applauded as their guests, including those from the Medford and Medford Lakes’ police forces, fire companies and emergency service staff, walked in single file. Some students held up thank-you signs and others happily exchanged high-fives, handshakes, smiles and lighthearted comments.
Once in the cafeteria, Father Daniel Swift, pastor of St. Mary of the Lakes Parish, led a prayer and blessing of food, and Amy Rash, principal, offered welcoming remarks.
