Funeral services for Mercy Sister Louise Gorka, served in Union Beach, Middletown
January 28, 2020 at 12:28 p.m.
Calling hours will be Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Sister Louise, the former Sister Mary Paulita, was born in South Amboy and had lived in Sayreville before entering the Sisters of Mercy Sept. 24, 1952.
Sister Louise taught in schools in the Camden and Metuchen Dioceses then moved into parish ministry in Holy Family Parish, Union Beach. After 14 years in Holy Family, Sister Louise and colleague, Mercy Sister Peggy Noone founded The Gathering Place, an adult education and spiritual retreat center in Middletown.
Sister Louise is predeceased by her parents Louis and Stella Gorka and her brother and his wife. She is survived by another brother and his wife, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as fellow members in the Sisters of Mercy.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Sayreville.
