Parish churches around the Diocese will host Masses the week of Jan. 20 as part of the Respect Life community’s commemoration of the tragic Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion on Jan. 22, 1973.

St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, will mark the 47th anniversary of that decision by welcoming the faithful from around the region for a Respect Life Mass Jan. 22 at 9:30 a.m. The Mass, celebrated by Msgr. Joseph Roldan, Cathedral rector, will precede the Rally for Life set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Statehouse Annex on West State Street. The Mass will conclude in time for participants to walk to the Statehouse, which is less than a mile from the Cathedral. For more information, call 609-396-5624.

Masses are also scheduled in some local parishes around the March for Life, which is set for Jan. 24 in Washington.  Among them is a Mass in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral in Freehold for any pro-life marchers on the night before the March.  Celebrated by Father Arian Wharff, parochial vicar, the Mass will take place beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Co-Cathedral chapel. For more information, or to inquire about remaining open seats on the St. Robert’s bus to Washington, contact the parish office at 732-462-7429, ext. 124.

St. Gabriel Parish in Marlboro is hosting a March for Life Mass Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. in the main church. The Mass is being held to pray for the safety and protection of the pro-life marchers traveling to Washington. According to planners, Mass intentions also include all pro-life causes and religious freedom in the United States and around the world. The Mass will be followed by the Sorrowful Mysteries, part of A Rosary for Life made available through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. All are welcome. For information, call 732-946-4487.
