Addictions Mass slated for Feb. 11 in Freehold

From Staff Reports

Jennifer Schlameuss-Perry believes February’s Addiction Recovery Mass, slated for the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of the Sick, is an important facet of pastoral care.

“Many of us have experienced addiction in ourselves or in our families,” said Schlameuss-Perry, pastoral assistant in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, Freehold. “It tears through families, makes things broken. We want to offer whatever comfort we can, show you are cared for and loved and remove some of the stigma.”

The Addiction Recovery Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the church at 61 Georgia Road, Freehold. Father Robert Grodnicki, pastor of St. Luke Parish, Toms River, will serve as homilist.

Father Grodnicki, a Trenton native, received his master of divinity degree from Washington Theological Union, Washington, and was ordained an Augustinian priest Oct. 23, 1988. While serving in Minnesota, he completed a year-long training program at the Hazelden Foundation, an addiction treatment center. In 1991, while stationed at a parish in the Bronx, N.Y., Father Grodnicki served as a social worker in the New York Foundling Hospital in the areas of foster care and adoptions, as well as serving as a representative in family court. During this time, he pursued a doctorate in sociology at Fordham University, N.Y.

During the course of his priesthood, Father Grodnicki has worked in the Department of Children and Family Services for the State of Illinois, as well as Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago in child welfare. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Trenton in 2006.
