Deacon Gene F. Moir Sr., served in Howell and Jackson parishes

Deacon Gene F. Moir Sr., who served in St. Veronica Parish, Howell, for 36 years, and most recently served as a deacon in St. Monica Parish, Jackson, died March 20 in his Lakewood residence. He was 77.
Born in Jersey City in 1942, Deacon Moir grew up in Hoboken and was a graduate of Demarest High School. His work and service experience included serving as a former captain of the ambulance squad in Lyndhurst, membership in the Knights of Columbus, chief operating office of Motors & Drives, Inc., and was president of the NY/NJ EASA Chapter. He was ordained a deacon in 1985 by Bishop John C. Reiss in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.
Deacon Moir is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances; four sons, Gene Jr. (Diane); David Sr. (Jeanne); Stephen J. (Jennifer), and Craig C. (Krystal); eight grandchildren, and two great grandsons.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, his funeral service will be conducted privately under the direction of the Lakewood Funeral Home, Howell. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
