The Roman Catholic Churches of Toms River (RCCTR) will host a drug recovery event titled “Peer Recovery Support: The Missing Link” 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 in the St. Luke Parish Center, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River. The event will be sponsored by local chapters of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and the Mental Health Association.

“Our hope is that this forum will help shed light on the numerous recovery resources available for individuals struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol and help save many precious lives,” said St. Luke pastor Father Robert Grodnicki.

The open-house educational community forum will focus on the role peers can have in healing others achieve wellness and recovery. Topics to be covered include who peers are; how they help; where peers work, and what resources are available for those struggling with addiction. The event supports the #SquashtheStigma challenge and will take place just days before the Oct. 6 “Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day” in New Jersey, helping to bring more focus and participation to prevention, education and awareness.

A brief panel discussion will take place at 7 p.m., after which panelists will hold discussions with groups of attendees. Various Ocean and Monmouth County organizations will be available to answer questions and provide resources to attendees. Refreshments will be served.

The event is free but registration is preferred at http://bit.ly/missinglinkforum.

Their mission statement is “Leading people to the heart of Jesus where they can experience the beauty of the truth as contained in the Catholic faith.”
