A celebration of grandparents in Holy Cross Academy

It was a ‘grand’ day around Holy Cross Academy, Rumson, as students welcomed their grandparents and special guests to their school Oct. 25.

The day opened in Holy Cross Church where Father Michael Manning, pastor, celebrated Mass for the congregation of students, grandparents, family members, school faculty and staff. At the end of the Mass, a candle-lighting ceremony was held during which the school’s 2019-2020 student council officers were inducted.

The officers are Sophia Ramos, president; Jack Jaenicke, vice president; Madison York, secretary, and Declan MacGregor, treasurer. Class representatives are: eighth grade: Bella Ericson and Robert Gill, 8A and Brady Barber and Duncan Straine, 8B; seventh grade: Lizzy McCarthy and Danny Burgess, 7A, and Brynn Howard and Mateo Chamorro, 7B; sixth grade: Ryann Hauck and CC Wagner, 6A and Kylin Gwydir and O’Hara Kane-Assatly, 6B; fifth grade: Ava Furlong and Luke Proodian; fourth grade: Dylan Repetto and Clarissa McGuiness.

Following Mass, the grandparents and guests gathered in the gym where they were greeted by Dr. Mark DeMareo, principal, and enjoyed refreshments. Afterward, they had a chance to tour the school and visit their grandchild’s classroom. While first and second graders sang for their grandparents; making crafts was the highlight in the third grade classroom. Sixth graders interviewed their grandparents about when they were children and the eighth graders taught their guests to use the Oculus Rift virtual reality in the science lab.
