Funeral services scheduled for Margo Beth Mroz Sciarrotta

Funeral services will be held Oct. 21 and 22 in St. James Church, Pennington, for Margo Beth (Mroz) Sciarrotta who died Oct. 16 in Greenwood House Hospice, Ewing Township. Mrs. Sciarrotta was the wife of Deacon Sam Sciarrotta and a longtime employee in the Diocesan Chancery, Lawrenceville.

Viewing hours will be Oct. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Born in Trenton, Mrs. Sciarrotta was raised in Avenel and Ortley Beach. She and Deacon Sciarrotta married in 1966 and they raised three children. They lived in Ewing for 45 years until moving they moved to Venice, Fla., in 2013.

Active in parish and diocesan ministries, Mrs. Sciarotta was a Catholic campus minister in Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Ewing, a zone coordinator and team couple with her husband for Worldwide Marriage Encounter. She taught French in the Ewing Township School District and tutored English as a second language.

In the Diocesan Chancery, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Office of Worship; was active in establishing the Renew program and served as an annulment advocate in the Diocesan Tribunal.

In St. James Parish, she was director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and a reader. She also founded “The Chosen,” a parish support group for persons with chronic or serious illnesses. She and Deacon Sam helped to lead the diocesan diaconate formation program in which they assisted with presenting retreats, programming and leading formation activities. Mrs. Sciarrotta also established a formation program for the wives of deacon candidates.

In 2017, Mrs. Sciarrotta authored a book, “A Litte Book of Prayer,” a series of meditations and prayer for those with serious or chronic illnesses and their caretakers.

While living in Venice, Mrs. Sciarrotta was active in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Osprey, Fla., and was a member of the Stephen’s Ministry.

Mrs. Sciarrotta was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Mroz, and two nephews. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children and their spouses: Marita R. Sciarrotta (Jay Watson); S. Mark Sciarrotta, and Matthew G.  Sciarrotta (Jenn Niemi); nine grandchildren; one brother and two sisters and their spouses, and many cousins, nephews and friends.

Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
