Funeral services have been announced for Conventual Franciscan Father Antone Kandrac, who died Nov. 20 in Our Lady of the Angels Care Center, Enfield, Conn. Father Kandrac lived in retirement in the friary of St. Junipero Serra Parish, Seaside Park, since 2014 he was assigned to Our Lady of the Angels Care Center earlier this fall.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 22 in St. Catharine of Siena Church, part of St. Junipero Serra Parish. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. St. Catharine of Siena Church is located at 50 E St., Seaside Park.

Born in May 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Father Kandrac was the son of Michael and Mary Frances (Michal) Kandrac. He entered St. Joseph Novitiate of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, Cohoes, N.Y., in 1950, and professed temporary vows Sept. 16, 1951, and solemn vows Sept. 17, 1954. He was ordained a priest June 1, 1957.

Father Kandrac worked in various ministries during his priestly life. His first assignment was as parochial vicar in Assumption Parish, Syracuse, N.Y. From 1958 to 1961, he served as chaplain in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, in addition to teaching in Trenton Catholic High School for Boys.

Father Kandrac also served in two hospitals operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Syracuse, from 1961 to 1967, and Boston, from 1967 to 1982. He then returned to Assumption Parish for two years as parochial vicar and then served as parochial vicar of St. Joseph Parish, Endicott, N.Y. As pastor, he served in St. James Parish, Lake Pleasant, and St. Anne Parish, Wells, N.Y., from 1985 to 1988; St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish, Utica, N.Y., from 1988 to 1995, and St. Mary Parish, Nassau, N.Y., from 1995 to 1997. In retirement, he served in Franciscan parishes.

He is survived by family members, friends and his Franciscan family.

Burial will be in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. Memorial donations may be made to the Franciscan Education Burse, 12300 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City, Md. 21042.
