Funeral services scheduled for Deacon Richard A. Hauenstein


Funeral services have been scheduled for Deacon Richard A. Hauenstein who died Nov. 17 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was 87.

Visitation will take place Nov. 20 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. in St. Justin the Martyr Church, 975 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Nov. 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the church.

Born in Elizabeth, later living in Roselle, Deacon Hauenstein worked for Bell Laboratories and retired as a facilities supervisor from AT&T in Holmdel. He served in the United States Navy on the USS WL Lind during the Korean War.

Deacon Hauenstein was educated in Edison Technical High School, Elizabeth, Fairleigh Dickinson University and St. Peter College, Jersey City, where he earned a master’s degree. He was ordained a deacon in May 12,1984 by Bishop John C. Reiss in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.  He was active in the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Richard (Barbara), and James (Marilyn); a daughter, Christina (Thomas III) Paccione; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-9959; Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, mskcc.org or St. Justin the Martyr Parish.
