Cecilia T. Gadenz, mother of priest, dies at 82

Father Pablo Gadenz, a priest of the Diocese who currently serves as associate professor of biblical studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, South Orange, was principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothea Church, Eatontown, Nov. 2 for his mother, Cecilia T. Gadenz.
Mrs. Gadenz died Oct. 28 at age 82.
Mrs. Gadenz was born in Tonadico di Primiero, a small village in the province of Trent in the Italian Alps, where she grew up. In 1963, she married her husband, Renato, in Tonadico and then relocated to Chile because of her husband’s work. She and her family moved to Los Angeles in 1969 and then to Tinton Falls in 1973.
Mrs. Gadenz, who pursued studies in languages, was fluent in Italian, German, Spanish and English. She had varied work experiences including as a manager of a resort hotel as well as a nurse and visiting home health aide. She also worked as an Italian language teacher for several schools in New Jersey and taught privately for students ages 10 to 90.
In St. Dorothea Parish, she was a longtime member of the prayer group; a participant in Bible studies for more than 25 years; an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion to the homebound and hospitalized, and initiated the parish’s once-a-week Eucharistic Adoration which is now in its 15th year. She was also a member of several groups that pray daily for the needs of others.
Mrs. Gadenz was predeceased by her parents, Giovanni Battista Turra and Margherita Albina Della Piazza, and five siblings. In addition to her husband and priest-son, Mrs. Gadenz is survived by daughter Maria (Michael) Stanton of Eatontown; son Rodolfo (Amalia) of London, England; a grandson, Joseph Stanton, and many friends.
Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
