Youngsters Enjoy Aviation Expo
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
First-grade students in St. Raphael School, Hamilton, recently explored the world of aviation and had the chance to try their hand at assembling hand-made planes. A guest aeronautical enthusiast presented the class with a lecture about flight, and students were treated to a demonstration about helicopters and airplanes. They learned how a helicopter can hover and move in different directions, and saw how a large plane takes off and lands. The youngsters started off by making paper “whirly birds” and paper airplanes, later moving on to the creation of Styrofoam aircraft. Both creations were taken outside for an authentic test run, another part of what school officials call the “Hands-on, Minds-on” learning philosophy at the elementary school.
