Members of Quiz Bowl teams fielded by St. James School, Red Bank, are all smiles after placing second in the annual Jeopardy-Style tournament sponsored by the Marine Academy of Science and Technology (M.A.S.T.) in Sandy Hook. At the middle school level, Quiz Bowl is a competitive, academic and interscholastic activity. The team members prepared for the event for weeks, honing their skills on a wide array of topics including math, science, literature, current, events, sports and popular culture. Like their Jeopardy counterparts, the students had just 20 seconds to answer the questions. This was the fifth year the school participated in the event, entering two teams in the competition against 26 Monmouth County schools. One of the teams took home second place honors and the other took 12th place honors. Pictured here, along with their monitor Gail Semiatschenko, are: Matthew DeStefano; Gavin Westerlind; Troy Hill; Bridgin Murrer; Sam Zatorski; Nick Scaramuzzino; Brendon Bennett; Frank Owens and Semiatschenko.
