Winning Arguments

Seventh grader Kate Manning, above, was among twelve of the fifteen members of the newly formed Mother Teresa Regional School Debate Club who participated in the inaugural debate tournament of the Garden State Middle School Debate League Oct. 22.   Each team debated five different topics ranging from education to politics.  Teams had 20 minutes to prepare their arguments to either agree with the proposition statement or oppose the statement.  The teams then debated the topics with teams from other schools in front of a judge and audience.  MTRS students Rachel Kovach, Valicia Stoeckel, Kahryn Henry, Gabriela Compagni, Shane Dolan, and Christina Noll were honored as six of the top 12 individual speakers of the day.  The debate team of Shane Dolan, Kendel Higgins, and Christina Noll placed second overall.  The next tournament will be held Jan. 28 at Red Bank Charter School.
