What are some of the challenges that Catholic men face in living out their faith?

“As a High School coach I am able to see that the biggest challenges for the kids I coach being peer pressure to use drugs, to drink and promiscuous sex. Mainly just the pressure of being excepted.  It’s nice that we now have these groups where a kid can get together with other kids that have the same faith.  It allows the kids to be able to be warriors now in a group. It’s hard for kids now to put their foot down and be that individual, willing to stand up for themselves.  But when two or three of them are in a group, it sets a standard and makes it much easier.  That’s why we like Catholic Athletes for Christ, we are about 120 strong at Norte Dame and we like that we can share the same problems, the same issues.  How do you get out of the party, when you get there and you realize this isn’t a good party to be at?  Do you have the network to deal with it through your friends?  It’s good for them to be able to have that to keep them from making bad choices.  Remember I’m dealing with Athletes they are dealing with pressure of who they look like, that’s why I like that Mike Piazza ended up being here.  It’s who they look up to, who are their heroes? If you look at our music and our athletes today the wrong people are being highlighted.  Who our heroes are and what a hero really is.  If you look at our Beer commercials, It’s about who can get the girl, who can get this thing or that.  Who makes the most money?  That’s now what it’s all about.  It’s about being a catholic It’s about what you can we do for others.  We have a saying- Strong Mind, Strong Body, Strong Faith equals a Strong Life.  It’s not about what you can do for me,  It’s about what can you do for others? I don’t think you get that anymore from your professional athletes, and the ones that do don’t make the headlines.  They aren’t the guys on the front page.  You’ve got to dig deep to find the good guy.  And that is why I like Mike Piazza, It’s nice to see that a star steps up and says that it’s like and this is the way it should be! Stars that stand up for their faith. ”
