'Week of the Young Child' celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna

The nursery school and full-day kindergarten classes at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Farmingdale, observed the Week of the Young Child April 11-17.

The week was designated by the National Association for the Education for Young Children (NAEYC). Each year, the parish’s nursery school classes prepare for the week by selecting a theme and the teachers prepare lesson plans centered on that theme.

The students read stories, sing songs and create projects. The local merchants in the town of Farmingdale celebrate along with the students by displaying their art projects in the stores and businesses.

The nursery school at St. Catherine of Siena Parish began eight years ago under the direction of Pat Cranmer, coordinator, along with Father Michael Vona, pastor, and Dr. Anthony Novembre, director. The school has grown to nearly 100 students in five pre-school classes and one kindergarten class. Another project the nursery school students participates in include a trikea
thon to raise money for young patients in St. Jude Hospital. [[In-content Ad]]
