July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft will host the second annual “Walk the Walk with Kevin Kret,” on the track of the school’s campus at 850 Newman Springs Road beginning with registration at 6:30 p.m.  This fundraising walk for the friends and family of Kevin is held each year to support his treatment following a traumatic brain injury.  Participants seek sponsors to make donations for each lap that they complete.  Last year, the event drew more than 500 participants and collected over $50,000 for the Kevin’s medical bills.

Kevin Kret, a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Parish, Lincroft, and a student at CBA, when he suffered a brain stem injury from a skateboarding accident in 2009.  He was not wearing a helmet.  Kevin is now in a persistent vegetative state due to his injuries.  His mother Joan Kret, a youth minister at CBA, cares for her son in their home with the assistance of private-duty nurses.

Out of this tragedy, Kret started Helmets for Life, a campaign to raise awareness of helmet safety while engaging in recreational sports.  Since 2010, Kret has taken her campaign to schools on a statewide basis delivering her message of the importance of helmets, through activities and demonstrations that appeal to school age children.  Helmets for Lives will also be at the event.

Donations may be made to Kevin’s Journey of Hope and mailed to:  27 Southview Terrace South, Middletown, NJ 07748.
