Studies show that continuing to learn new skills as we age can help our brains stay healthy. Georgian Court University, Lakewood, aims to reinforce this phenomenon with a series of programs aimed at older citizens.

The McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning (MILL) at GCU is a community education program designed for adults age 50 and older. Members who want to foster successful aging and retirement transition through continued education and socialization can take advantage of MILL’s many hands-on experiences.

MILL offers a variety of courses, taught by experienced instructors, in a supportive environment. Members can study world cultures, learn an art like watercolors or calligraphy, study music, go on excursions and attend social events. Learning opportunities are offered without tests or homework on the GCU campus.

Both MILL members and non-members are invited to the GCU campus for programs open to the public for all ages. GCU, as the community’s cultural, educational and spiritual center, regularly hosts well-known speakers. Recent guests include Elie Wiesel, Sister Helen Prejean (Dead Man Walking), Liz Murray (Homeless to Harvard), Dith Pran (The Killing Fields), the Drepung Gomang Monks, and coaches Herman Boone and Bill Yost (Remember the Titans). The university also offers many concerts and an arts and music lecture series.

Annual membership to MILL is $25, and $20 for GCU alums.

To register securely for classes, to become a MILL member or to renew your membership online, visit http://alumni.georgian.edu/mill, or contact the Office of Conferences and Special Events at 732-987-2263.
