UPDATED: Overview of RCIA process to be focus of workshops

Persons who serve in the ministry of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults including parish R.C.I.A. directors, team members and others who want to learn more about the process that prepares adults seeking entrance into the Catholic Church are encouraged to attend a workshop, “Overview of the RCI A,” hosted by the diocesan Department of Evangelization and Catechesis.
Presented by Oscar Cruz, director of the catechumenate and adult faith formation leader in the Office of Catechesis in the Archdiocese of New York, the workshop to be presented in Spanish, will encompass the stages in the RCIA process which include: the Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate, the Period of the Catechumenate, the Period of Purification or Enlightenment, Celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation and the Period of Mystagogy.
The first workshop will be held June 11 in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 251 Franklin St., Hightstown, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second workshop will be held June 12 from 2 to 7 p.m. in Christ the King Parish-Holy Trinity School, 375 Exchange Place, Long Branch. In addition to Cruz's presentation in Spanish, Father Benjamin Barrios will be on hand to lead a session in Portuguese at the June 12 session.
Registration fee is $10. Participants attending the Saturday session should bring a brown bag lunch. Refreshments will be served at the Sunday session. All participants should bring copies of the Rite book and the diocesan Practical Guide. If needed, copies of the book will be available for purchase at a charge of $20.
