Upcoming program at Georgian Court University

Georgian Court University (GCU), Lakewood, will host a presentation by Mercy Sister Mary Louise Miller, principal of  Sisters Academy of New Jersey Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Little Theatre.

The Sisters Academy of New Jersey is dedicated to educating girls from economically challenged families in order to provide them with the tools necessary to gain access into and success in private high schools and universities. The academy educates girls in an academically challenging and highly disciplined learning environment. Classes focus on both academics and life skills. The academy is a program of Mercy Center and a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy.

Sister Mary Louise also served as principal of Cathedral Grammar School in Trenton and of Center City Catholic in Camden. After earning a juris doctorate. degree at Kean University, she practiced law at Gelzer, Kelaher, Shea, Novy and Carr, P.A., in Toms River and for her own private practice. Sister Mary Louise received an honorary doctor of educational administration degree from Georgian Court in 2015.

This presentation is part of the university’s Critical Concerns 2016 programs featuring well-recognized speakers, authors, artists, filmmakers, and educators. For the past decade, the annual Critical Concerns programs at GCU have addressed the Sisters of Mercy’s five critical concerns -- the earth, immigration, racism, nonviolence and women.

All sessions are open to the public and free of charge. Learn more and register at georgian.edu/critical-concerns or call the Office of Mission Integration at 732-987-2303.
