July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
St. George Parish, Titusville, will mark the beginning of The Holy Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis with three days of prayer for God’s Mercy on the first three Thursdays of December -- Dec. 3, 10 and 17. The program will be offered twice each day from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the church.
The program will be open-ended beginning with the recitation of the Litany of Mercy, followed by a presentation by Msgr. Vincent Gartland, a senior priest of the Diocese, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the chance to spend some quiet personal time with the Lord.
Topics that Msgr. Gartland will focus on are:
Dec. 3 – The Quality of Mercy is Not Strained. Msgr. Gartland will look at examples of God’s Mercy from Scripture and from real life experiences.
Dec. 10 – Developing The Habit of Mercy. Msgr. Gartland will explore questions such as “What is Mercy?” “Where does [mercy] come from?” “How can we make mercy a habit?”
Dec. 17 – Human Suffering and God’s Mercy. Msgr. Gartland will address the question, “Where is God’s mercy in the midst of human suffering?”
The formal part of each evening should run between 60 and 90 minutes. The remainder of the time will be for personal prayer, reflection and reconciliation.
