Thanksgiving project set up to assist with meals

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Again this year, the St. Francis Community Center Family Support Services is planning its annual Thanksgiving project which has been helping those less fortunate for more than 20 years.

More than 40 people including boy scouts, food pantry volunteers and other St. Francis volunteers come together to serve about 300 low income families in southern Ocean County.

Families sign up for the project in the St. Francis Human Concerns Department in the month before Thanksgiving.  Each family that signs up for the project is provided with all of the necessary items to make a Thanksgiving meal, including stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables (corn and green beans), gravy, a frozen turkey and a pie.

This project is made possible by the generous donations of the Long Beach Island Rotary Club and local community members.  Shoprite in Manahawkin collects turkeys purchased in its store for the project.

Donations of the items listed above can be dropped off at the Human Concerns Office by Nov. 17.  The St. Francis Community Center Family Support Services and Human Concerns Office is at 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach Twp.

For more information, contact Family Support Services at 609-494-8861, ext. 197, or www.stfranciscenterlbi.org.
