Teddy bears for hospitalized children

For the second year, St. John the Apostle Council, Knights of Columbus, Lakehurst, has donated Build-A-Bear teddy bears to area hospitals.
Last year the council donated 26 bears to Children’s Specialized Hospital and 20 bears to Community Medical Center, both in Toms River.
This year, the council was able to donate to three area hospitals – The Children’s Specialized Hospital received 30 Build-A-Bears; Community Medical Center received 10 bears, and Ocean Medical Center, Brick, also received 10.
All the Build-A-Bears that the council donated went to children who were hospitalized during Christmas.
Committee chairman Peter Reuter, the council’s past grand knight, said there is nothing better than to see a child’s face on Christmas morning opening up a special gift and knowing that you were able to help in a small way.
“A child’s smiling face” just makes all the hard work even more special and rewarding, he said.
