Take a walk with the angels!

City of Angels NJ is hosting a Recovery Walk/5K Sept. 19 with the goal of raising $50,000 to help young people in recovery from addictions. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the event – the all-volunteer organizations largest fundraising effort of the year -- will be used for this purpose.

“COA’s purpose is to provide services to people suffering from the terrible disease of addiction,” said Deacon William Wilson of St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square, who also is a member of the City of Angels executive advisory board. “The funds will be used to send people for medical help, to sober-living houses, counseling and short- or long-term rehabilitation. It is for people who want to change their lives in a positive way.”

Cost for the walk/run, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the West Picnic Area, Mercer County Park, is $25. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Refreshments will be provided by event sponsors free of charge, and prizes will be awarded to participants with the best times in their respective categories.

In the first six months of 2014, City of Angels spent $30,000 of its own money to send 50 young people to sober-living facilities or rehabilitation, regardless of their insurance coverage.

City of Angels NJ, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. In 2013, COA conducted over 500 interventions and worked with more than 700 families, all at no charge.

In the first 6 months of 2014, COA paid over $30,000 for 50 young people to receive medical care, enter sober living and/or begin long term treatment for addiction. Without this support, many would not be in recovery today. Learn more at www.CityofAngelsNJ.org.
