Take a bow for Realfaith TV
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Late spring and early summer always bring with them a sense of excitement and anticipation here in the Office of Communications, as our Department of Radio and Television takes on the ambitious and bustling business of preparing a new season of Realfaith TV.
Now in production for its 14th season, Realfaith TV is correctly described as the television talk show produced by teens, for teens. But even the most casual observer could tell you that bringing the teens together to do this important work involves a great deal of time, effort and commitment on the part of diocesan staff and professional partners.
It is only through the collaboration of dozens of young people, aided by a team of advisors, producers and directors, that Realfaith TV takes shape each summer and makes it ways to televisions, computers and smart phones across the nation and beyond beginning in the fall. Indeed, RFTV reaches cable television markets across New Jersey, California, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania. Programming also reaches audiences in Canada. The programs play out across YouTube, reaching tens of thousands of online viewers.
But to recognize all of the collaborators of RFTV requires that we go well beyond the walls of the Chancery in Lawrenceville and the television studio in Bordentown where the shows are produced. It means that we cast our glance further than the talented professionals and dedicated teens who give so much of themselves each summer to create it.
To truly name all of those who can take credit for this award-winning program, we need to include members of our parishes who support this work with their generous donations. In fact, Realfaith TV is made possible in large part by the subsidies that parishes pay to the diocese, as well as donations to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Additional resources are also provided through the U.S. bishops’ Catholic Communications Campaign, which funds local projects as well as national initiatives and has always been well supported by the diocesan community.
Pope Francis and his two predecessors have passionately called upon us to engage our culture via modern communications. Because of the leadership of our bishops and the support that our people have given, Realfaith TV has been doing that since 2000, making a positive impact on young viewers and even serving as a resource in classrooms and youth ministry groups.
It is important that all those who support their parishes financially, and who give to the annual appeal and the Communications Campaign are able to see their hard-earned dollars at work. You are making an important difference in the lives of young people when you make this kind of programming possible. You are part of the new evangelization to which we are all called, and we thank you sincerely.
