The Tim Keyes Consort will present “Symphony in G – Christus: The Ascendance of Light,” a program of four compositions by New Jersey composers, at 8 p.m. June 15 in Richardson Auditorium on the campus of Princeton University at 68 Nassau St.

The evening’s centerpiece, “Symphony in G – Christus,” is inspired by both scriptural and secular texts that reference Christ as the bearer of light and conqueror of darkness in the world. Keyes’ work is structured in five movements and references light as the presence of good throughout both Old and New Testament Scripture.

Ernestine Northover’s Poem, “An Abundant Light,” and selections from Keyes’ “St. Patrick’s Breastplate” are incorporated into the symphony, as well as numerous Psalms and original text by the composer.

Also included on the program will be “Parva Lux,” a work by Montgomery High School senior Kathryn Dauer, and “The Darkness Surrounds Me,” composed by recent Rowan University graduate Andrew Gavin. Both pieces explore the rhythm of darkness and light in the natural world struggle.

Keyes, a New Jersey-based composer and conductor, is the pastoral assistant for music and liturgy in St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Skillman. He directs the Tim Keyes Consort, which is comprised of both professional and amateur singers and instrumentalists from throughout central Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
