Danielle Radeke, a junior in St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, has received recognition for her writing submissions in the 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Jackson resident won the organization’s second place Silver Key Award for her short story “The House” and honorable mention in the poetry category for “Love’s Gamble/Sammy.”

More than 230,000 works were submitted to the nationwide contest, begun in 1923 to identify teenagers with exceptional artistic and literary talent and bring their works to a wider audience.  Radeke began her writing career as a four-year-old, relaying stories for her grandmother to write down, then illustrating them.

Radeke is an active member of the St. John Vianney choir, Lancer Productions and the school band. The junior serves as secretary of the Mission Awareness Club, founded a youth group called Acts 29 and was lead actress in an SJV film entitled “Under Pressure.” She is also a vocalist for the Freehold Academy of Performing Arts and has recently filmed a commercial.
