St. Rose ministry fair an event for all ages
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
After a 10-year hiatus, the parish ministry fair is coming back to St. Rose Parish, Belmar, and organizers aim to make it a welcoming, informative experience.
The fair begins after 5 p.m. Mass on May 30, and continues on May 31 after the 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. Masses. In keeping with the theme for World Synod on the Family, this year’s ministry fair theme is “St. Rose Parish: A Family of Ministries.”
“The last ministry fair held at St. Rose was 10 years ago,” said fair co-chair Tom Mullooly. “It is our intention to make this an annual event.”
Mullooly and co-chair Maryann Trez believe the fair is an excellent way for parishioners to see their friends and other parishioners “in action” all in one weekend.
“We just celebrated our parish’s 120th anniversary last month,” said Msgr. Edward J. Arnister, St. Rose pastor. “We have been highlighting a different ministry of the parish each month for several months now – including a ‘meet-and-greet’ after Masses – and the ministry fair is really the culmination of that.”
The parish has 30 ministries and each parish ministry, as well as the parish’s schools – St. Rose Grammar School and St. Rose High School – will be present at booths set up in the high school gym. Representatives will be available for questions about the ministries and how to get involved. Additionally, many local businesses will be represented, several of which have lent their support to St. Rose Parish over the years.
Several St. Rose Parish ministries have become large in number, including the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the men’s ministry, Cornerstone. On the flip side, the smaller ministries are just as important to the life of the parish community.
Families are especially encouraged to bring their children, teens and young adults. St. Rose operates several ministries in which young people can participate, including children’s choir, altar servers and even the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Music, food and drink will be provided, as well as games and activities for the younger attendees.
“We want young people to know about our different ministries and see the people who volunteer to serve in the parish,” Msgr. Arnister said. “We want to give them a vision of our parish and how as a parish family we are called to serve one another in Christ.”
