St. Mary Parish to offer evangelization training
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
St. Mary Parish, Middletown, will host a two-part workshop on basic evangelization training July 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. and July 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church at 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road. Co-sponsored by the Diocese of Trenton’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal and Catholic Men for Jesus Christ, the workshop will feature speaker Adam Janke of St. Paul Street Evangelization organization.
Based in Bloomington, Ind., St. Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit Catholic evangelization organization with 300 chapters worldwide. The group is dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking the Catholic Faith to the streets. Their “street teams” speak with passersby in a non-confrontational way, offer them a miraculous medal or Rosary, and spark the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness their public Catholic presence. They assist people to encounter Jesus Christ and his Church through listening, friendship, prayer and proclamation.
Janke, who serves as vice president and program director of the group, travels across the country offering workshops and talks on how to put the new evangelization into practice in everyday life. After converting to Catholicism from biblical fundamentalism in 2005, Adam obtained his bachelor’s degree in theology and catechetics, and master’s degree in theology, both from Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio. He has been featured on Eternal Word Television Network, Catholic Answers Live, the Radio Maria Network, The National Catholic Register, and in several Catholic news publications. Janke resides in Michigan with his wife and five children.
The two-day workshop will explore such topics as the spiritual life of the evangelist, building trust, basic etiquette for the evangelist, sharing the story of salvation, prayer and the evangelist, sharing your testimony and praying out loud. Participants will have the opportunity to break into small groups to discuss and practice evangelization.
The suggested donation is $25, and may be paid in advance or at the door. To register, or for further information, contact Christopher Carlo of St. Mary Parish at 732-671-0071 ext. 221. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
